Welcome all to the start of the 2019/20 season, which I hope will be full of the success and enjoyment of prior seasons.
Before the season commences I thought I would touch on news from what has been a busy and exciting off-season around the club. From a player perspective we had Matt Kelly travel to India in April to play for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League. Although Matt unfortunately didn’t get an opportunity to play, the experience of being part of the biggest T20 competition in the world is something he will never forget. Tim David recently helped Singapore into the next stage of the T20 world cup qualifiers.
Tim now has a great opportunity to be part of the T20 world cup held in Australia in March 2020, should Singapore finish in the top 6 out of 12 nations at the final qualifying event held in Dubai in October/ November this year. Elsewhere, young gun Riley Mattingley will be representing Western Australia at the u17s national championships in Queensland at the end of the month. We are also very excited that Noel Raymond will be joining the club from university to captain the 4th grade side.
Noel has a wealth of experience from WA masters cricket and is a great smiling face to have around the club. Pre-season has been great, with the ever-green Dan Turkich continuing to take an active role in organising the fitness and team bonding activities which all the boys have thoroughly enjoyed. Skills sessions have been Wednesday’s nights at Revolution Sports since early August. I know all the boys are now excited to show their skill progression outside at Cresswell Park now the sun is starting to shine and the days getting longer. I am proud and grateful to see the huge effort the committee, coaches and players have put into preparing for what is sure to be another great season at the club.
I encourage everyone to get behind the club, with the first game commencing on Saturday 5 October 2019 against Midland Guildford, with the 1s and 3s away and 2s and 4s at home.
